Other Details to Note

Frequently Asked Questions: 1. How is the drive to the cabin? The roads and private driveway to the cabin are paved and well maintained. As with most mountain areas there are curves, climbs and few guard rails so we highly suggest arriving before dark. Just pay close attention and drive slowly. City dwellers may need to channel their adventurous spirit. :) 2. Do I need 4-wheel drive to access the cabin? Only if the weather would require a 4-wheel drive to go anywhere such as heavy snow and icy conditions which is thankfully rare at our elevation of 1600 ft. Please check the weather before you leave. 3. What toiletries are provided? We provide shampoo, conditioner and body gel dispensers in each bathroom. 4. What household supplies are provided? Tissues in each bathroom, 1 roll of paper towel, 2 rolls of toilet paper per bathroom and dishwasher tablets. If you run out or need additional supplies, there's a Dollar General 10 minutes from the cabin. 5. Do you have a crib? Yes, we provide a Dream On Me mini crib outfitted with a mattress and sheets. 6. Do you provide a grill? Yes, we have installed a charcoal, park-style grill for your use, bring your own charcoal. 7. Is the hot tub cleaned after every stay? Yes, it’s drained, cleaned, and refilled for every stay. 8. When will I get the address and cabin access info? This will be provided via an Airbnb message the day before your stay. A few days before your stay we’ll provide you with local info that will help you pack. 9. Do you offer discounts? We offer a weekly discount and a monthly discount. From time to time, we may reduce the price to fill any remaining dates and that reduction will be reflected in the price you see when you’re reserving the cabin. 10. What if it snows while we're traveling to the cabin? Although it rarely gets severely cold or snowy in the Smokes during the winter months, it does happen occasionally. Snowfall typically occurs December through March, and sometimes as early as November. Please check the weather forecast before traveling. If the weather calls for snow, bring some extra groceries and wood for the fireplace just in case you get snowed in for a couple days (which is a rare occurrence but good to be prepared if the weather is calling for snow). Also, if you plan to take Route 441 (Newfound Gap Pass) through Smoky Mountains National park check current road conditions at GSMNP as it's frequently closed during inclement weather. 11. What if it snows while we're staying at the cabin? Secret Ridge is at a 1700 elevation and typically the heavy snow occurs at a 3000 elevation or greater. If it does snow, this area is not known for lasting snow accumulations, so the city and county are not equipped to clear/plow every road and street in the event of a major snowfall and priority is given to major thoroughfares and county roads. Keep in mind, since the cabin is located in a residential area with just a few other cabins, it is unlikely that the streets will be treated or plowed in the event of a snow accumulation. Snowfalls, ice and wind storms may cause power outages, which in most cases are resolved within a few hours. If you experience a power outage, please notify us and we will notify Sevier County Electric utility. The cabin is equipped with a wood log fireplace that will keep it warm even in the event of an extended power outage in cold weather. Please make sure to keep the windows and doors closed to retain the heat. Please know we will do everything possible to assist, however we have no control over weather events, power outages or county road plowing. We are an individual cabin owner and WE DO NOT PROVIDE TOWING, SNOW PLOWING or SNOW REMOVAL SERVICES. No refunds will be given due to weather conditions, late arrivals, early departures, guest’s fear of driving in the mountains, or power outages. If you feel you may have winter travel concerns, we suggest purchasing Cancellation Insurance through an independent provider at the time of booking for added peace of mind. When it snows, housekeeping/maintenance may not be able to get to the cabin to do anything about the snow. Please keep that in mind and plan accordingly. In most cases, the snow melts within a few hours to a couple of days.

Absolutely great place, worth the price and would recommend to anyone. It’s difficult to think of anything in particular to mention because EVERYTHING is just so great and all stood out. I’m rating it 5 stars because I can’t rate it 7 stars. Hosts are really nice, responds quickly and are a great help.

This place was great for our family. Very close to Metcalf Bottoms area of the park and has a trail out the back door that connects to the trail system in the park. Super convenient and made for some quick hikes with the kids before dinner.

The cabin was very secluded; we never heard or saw another person. The cabin is very spacious and was a great place to relax and just chill out. The hot tub is great and was a nice bonus every night. The kitchen is set up nice as well. Tge WiFi stopped working a few times and the tv’s wouldn’t stream for awhile but it always came back on and wasn’t a real issue. The only real thing to emphasize is the road up to the cabin is super steep. I had to put my truck into 4Lo to comfortably get up to the cabin. I’m sure cars can make it, but it is really steep with a couple of really sharp turns. Overall, we had a great stay and would definitely come back!

Our stay at Shawn's house had a beautiful view, was very clean. The house was very close to Townsend and The Great Smoky Mountains which was an added plus. We had a very relaxing vacation, thank you for sharing your house with us.

We had such a wonderful stay at Shawn’s place! My family arrived late at night and had a little trouble spotting the “Secret Ridge” sign in the dark, but once we found it, the adventure began. The final switchback up the driveway definitely keeps things exciting — just take it wide and give it a little gas, and after the first time it’s no problem at all. The house itself was perfect for our family getaway. Our kids loved exploring the area, and we loved starting each morning with a hot cup of coffee on the patio, soaking in the peaceful surroundings. Truly a memorable trip, and we’d love to come back!

It would also be best to arrive before dark, if at all possible, so you can see clearly to traverse the roads to the cabin. If you have no choice but to arrive after dark, don't worry. I've done it many times. Just be aware, drive slowly and safely.
